With drought being a frequent consequence of life in the semi-arid climate of our state, Colorado State University has long been on the leading edge of research related to the impacts of drought and fire on people and the environment. Currently, more than 100 researchers from 25 university departments are conducting drought-related studies that will to provide valuable information to government leaders, businesses and individuals as they plan for and manage drought events.

Highlights:

  • Known as an international leader in climatology, hydrology and water resources science, the University houses one of the premier atmospheric science departments in the United States and one of the most respected water engineering programs in the world. Additionally, several renowned research centers that focus on weather and water related topics are located on campus.
  • Home to faculty that are among the top forestry and fire experts in the country, and the Western Forest Fire Research Center, Colorado State is recognized as a leader in fire research, information and education.
  • An integral part of the land-grant mission is outreach and Colorado State is continually providing useful, research-based information to the people and businesses directly impacted by the drought, from agriculture and horticulture producers to cities and homeowners who struggle to effectively conserve water.
